The Fenix project Fenix (2021-1-ES01-KA220-VET-000032954) is one of the projects in which IEKEP participated as a partner. The participating countries are Spain (Innovation Training Center), Portugal (ISQ e-learning) and Romania (HELIXCONNECT), while the leader is the University of the Balearic Islands from Spain. The FENIX project aims to contribute to strengthening the resilience of European enterprises and their employees through the development of an innovative gamified learning experience, a guideline to support the implementation of systemic resilience practices in enterprises and an online fast-track course on adaptive management. The project's duration was 2 years, from 2022 to 2024.
The COVID pandemic19 showed that resilience is key to dealing with unforeseen negative events. European businesses are trying to recover from the negative impact caused by multiple restrictions, lockdowns, loss of productivity, to name but a few factors. In order to survive this economic, health and social crisis, businesses must demonstrate organizational resilience, supported by adaptive management systems. With the rise of global warming, the possibility of a new pandemic, high migration patterns (and more), it is a matter of knowing how to deal with the next crisis. Nevertheless, organizations face adversity every day and how they respond to that adversity can make the organization fragile or resilient (if acting through a set of skills that promote organizational effectiveness and growth) (Sutcliffe & Vogus, 2003).
Organizational resilience is the ability of organizations to deal with adversity in such a way that a response is generated that allows for recovery and activation of coping mechanisms, achieving a healthy/positive adaptation, and developing new competencies and expanding skills that allow for exploring opportunities and building skills to deal with future adversity (Coutu, 2002). This is achieved through two components: the individual resilience of the organization's workforce (when used collectively) and the systemic resilience of the organization's processes (system capacity) (Irigaray, Paiva, & Goldschmidt, 2017).
